Bank statement extraction API for accounting software

Statement PDFs to categorised transactions, or to the QBO, OFX, QIF and CSV files a ledger imports.

The statement your client already has

Bank feeds break, start late or miss the account that matters. At year end the bookkeeper is sent a folder of PDFs and asked to make the books agree with them. The API turns each PDF into ledger rows: date, description, amount, direction, a payee name and a category, with the account it came from.

Payee names are read from the description, so TESCO STORES 3412 and TESCO EXPRESS both arrive as Tesco and a bank rule can match them. Each statement is checked against its own opening and closing balance before it reaches you, so a reconciliation that fails in your product fails because of the books, not the import.

Built for a ledger

What a bookkeeping product needs from an import, on every row.

Five formats

JSON by default, or format=qbo, ofx, qif or csv for a file to hand straight to the user.

Payee names

A clean payee on each row, read from the bank's description.

Categories

Every row filed, so a chart-of-accounts mapping starts mostly done.

Balanced to the statement

Rows checked against the printed opening and closing balances.

Several accounts

A business current account and a card on one PDF come back as two accounts.

Cards the right way round

Purchases are debits and payments are credits, so card balances move correctly.

A QuickBooks file in one call

Ask for a format and the response is the file.

curl -X POST "https://statementbear.com/api/v1/documents?format=qbo" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $STATEMENTBEAR_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/pdf" \
  --data-binary @statement.pdf \
  -o statement.qbo
