How HSBC statements are read

One date for many rows

HSBC prints the date only on the first transaction of each day and leaves it blank on the rest. Every row in the export carries its own date.

Short payment codes

Rows start with a code such as VIS for a debit card payment, DD for a direct debit, SO for a standing order, CR for a credit or ))) for contactless, and the amount sits under Paid out or Paid in. The column sets the direction and the code is left in the description.

Parse HSBC statements in your own app

Send the PDF to the StatementBear API and get JSON back: every transaction with its direction and category, the account it belongs to, and a check that the totals reconcile. No bank login, no template per bank. The first 25 documents are free, then $0.49 each.
