How Chase statements are read
Checking statements sort rows into sections
A Chase checking statement prints amounts without a plus or minus. Whether a row is money in or money out is decided by the section it sits under: Deposits and Additions, ATM & Debit Card Withdrawals, Electronic Withdrawals, Checks Paid. The converter reads the section, so every row comes out with the right sign.
Card statements print credits as negatives
On a Chase credit card statement purchases are positive and payments and refunds carry a minus sign. Those are kept apart in the export, so a card payment is never counted as income and a refund is never counted as spending.
Parse Chase statements in your own app
Send the PDF to the StatementBear API and get JSON back: every transaction with its direction and category, the account it belongs to, and a check that the totals reconcile. No bank login, no template per bank. The first 25 documents are free, then $0.49 each.
