How Navy Federal statements are read

Checking and savings on one statement

The statement opens with a summary of your deposit accounts, then lists the transactions for each one in turn, checking first and savings after. Each is read as its own account, so a transfer from checking to savings is not counted as spending in one place and income in the other.

Money out can carry a trailing minus

Each row has one Amount column and a running Balance, and money out can be marked by a minus after the figure. The same mark after the balance means the account was overdrawn. Each row takes its direction from the mark on its amount, and an overdrawn balance never turns into an extra transaction.

Parse Navy Federal statements in your own app

Send the PDF to the StatementBear API and get JSON back: every transaction with its direction and category, the account it belongs to, and a check that the totals reconcile. No bank login, no template per bank. The first 25 documents are free, then $0.49 each.
