How USAA statements are read
Debits and credits are side-by-side columns
Each transaction sits on one line with a Debits column, a Credits column and a running Balance, and only the column an amount sits in says which way it went. The converter reads the column position, so a refund from a shop is money in even though its description names a shop.
Transfers are marked DB and CR
Money moved between USAA accounts is printed as USAA FUNDS TRANSFER DB for money out and USAA FUNDS TRANSFER CR for money in, with the other account named after it. Those rows are marked as transfers, so topping up savings is not spending and moving it back is not income.
Parse USAA statements in your own app
Send the PDF to the StatementBear API and get JSON back: every transaction with its direction and category, the account it belongs to, and a check that the totals reconcile. No bank login, no template per bank. The first 25 documents are free, then $0.49 each.
Statements from other banks
